Future Indoor Possibilities
As of now, October 2011, what will become an indoor set is well underway. A 24 by 30 foot building, with a 10 foot ceiling height is built and was used for actress housing during the 2010 and 2011 video seasons. Inside there is a pit, roughly 6 by 6 feet and 5 feet deep, surrounded by a deck that will be decorated to be a jungle environment. The pit has been filled with water since spring of 2011. The next steps will be installation of a heating system for the pit and then addition of the "quicksand" media to the pit. Both building and pit will be heated such as to be usable in the fall and spring months, and maybe in the winter. The entire set is equipped with artificial lighting, a blue screen on two walls, equipment to generate fog and, in the future, possibly, rain.
When this facility is finished it will be available all year (possibly not in the winter) and for general use as well as filming projects. It will be possible and practical to use the indoor set as a quicksand set or as a jungle set with the pit covered over. It will be available only on a fee-for-use basis. The rental rate is expected to be only about $100.00 per day during the off-season (september through May). The rate MAY be somewhat less when used only as a jungle set. During the summer video season, however, it will probably NOT be available as a video set because the building at that time will be configured for housing. However, the management of Studio 588 is very interested in setting up flexible time-sharing agreements with other producers, whereby a payment up-front will cover (without additional fee) usage for a specified number of five-day time slots over a specified number of years. This sort of arrangement will be available ONLY on a 9-month basis. That is, a time-sharing arrangement for time in the summer will not be possible.
