Cooking and Food

Unless a producer requests otherwise, food will be provided to performers and crew, the cost of which is built into the cost of the facility itself. Prior to arrival (by at least seven days) the manager will need a detailed listing of any food items to be avoided. If anyone involved has a food allergy, particular foods they equate with vermin, special dietary requirements, and so on it is essential this be made known a week in advance. Please remember that the nearest full-service grocery is a 68 mile round trip.

Depending on the size and duration of a shoot, crew members and performers are asked to assist with such matters as dish washing (and clothes washing). During a shoot with a tight schedule it is usually best for film crew people to do most of this work, rather than the performers, as the performers generally need a lot of time before a scene for preparing make-up, hair, etc.

On a shoot involving larger numbers of people it becomes increasingly important that everyone follow a few rules regarding where they put such items as half-consumed drinks, cameras, CDs, tapes, and the like. These need to stay out of the kitchen and food-serving area, as they really can slow down the process of getting meals.

Trash

There are specific and separate containers for disposal of paper, aluminum, other metal and glass, compostable food waste, other food waste, and plastic. It is especially important to follow the rules with respect to food waste and food containers (wash before disposing) because our location is remote enough that improper disposal can become an attraction to wild animals. And we are talking about bears, not just raccoons and squirrels.

Transportation

By request, and subject to negotiation, visitors to the Studio can be met and picked up at the Little Rock, Arkansas airport. Please bear in mind, however, that a round trip to this airport is 220 miles, so such service is pretty much limited to your arrival and departure. If you have performers coming at different times while a shoot is going on then it just isn't possible to provide this service. Three people can be picked up comfortably at one time. If there is a larger group, a rental car at the airport is suggested.

Lodging

Lodging is very limited at Studio 588. In the main building there is one bedroom with a twin-sized bed, plus a cot. In the second building there are two twin beds separated by temporary dividers. There is a 3/4 bath in each building. There are four additional cots that can be set up in the main room if such an arrangement is not uncomfortable for those involved.  Motel accommodations are readily available, but are a substantial distance away. The nearest major chain motels are approximately 30 miles away, in either of two directions. Several other motels can be found 20 miles distant in a third direction, but have not been checked for quality of service or price. There is plenty of space for campers of any size, but not hookups.

Directions

Detailed directions will be provided for all those needing them. Obviously, it would not be good idea to post them here. The last 3.4 miles is on a gravel road with no lights. The navigationally challenged can be met at an unmistakable intersection or landmark, provided arrival can be timed fairly closely.

Props & Make Up

For the most part, props are the responsibility of the producer, and Studio 588 cannot get involved in making such arrangements at more than a minimal level. However, there are many items that have been left behind by previous producers, with the understanding that they may be used by others. These include numerous wardrobe items, several wigs, fake weapons, fake blood, and a good collection of shoes and boots. If there is something you need, ask, but don't be disappointed if we don't have it. A small supply of liquid latex is kept on hand for things like facial scars. If you use a wardrobe item you are expected to launder it.
